Pawty

Privacy policy

Last updated October 24, 2026. Applies to the Pawty iPhone app and this website.

The short version

  • Your dog's sounds are synced to your account. That means short audio clips, the "words" we group them into, and your tags and notes.
  • Talking with no dog sound in it is dropped on your phone and never saved or uploaded. A dog sound that happens while someone is talking is kept, uploaded with the voices that were in it, and marked as overlapping speech. Our server then removes the voices as well as it can and deletes the original clip. It may not catch every word.
  • An AI service reads some photos, only if you say yes. The first time you add a vet paper or catch an animal, the app asks before sending the photo to Anthropic's Claude. You can switch this off any time in Profile, under Settings & privacy.
  • Pawla, the in-app helper, uses AI only after you say OK. The first time you ask her something, the app tells you your message and your dog's details go to Anthropic's Claude, and asks before sending. Chats are kept for 90 days, and you can clear them any time.
  • Care: the vet papers and records you add, your reminders, your pet's weight, your phone number for the lost-pet poster, the microchip details and your sitter note sync to your account, and only your account can read them. The posters and PDFs you make are built on your phone. We don't host them and we make no public link for them: they go only where you send them.
  • Pawdex: photos you take of animals you meet (any animal, not just dogs), the names you add, and the neighbourhood and city names (never exact coordinates) and date of each meeting sync to your account. The camera refuses photos with people, and people in the background are blurred on your phone before anything is stored or uploaded, as well as we can. A card you show or share can be seen by anyone with its link, until you stop sharing it.
  • Finding the same animal as other people: to say "You found Pip!", our server turns the photo into a numerical look-alike code and compares it with animals in the same neighbourhood. Other people see only the animal's name, sticker, scientific name and how many people found it, never where or when. Your own pet can be found this way too.
  • Two small abuse limits outlive your account. They are one-way codes made from your Apple ID, with no name, email, place or content in them (see Abuse limits below).
  • Tricks: short videos of your dog sync to your account. Sound is off by default: unless you turn it on for a video, its audio is removed before it is saved. Trick videos and their pictures may show people (you, or whoever is filming); they stay private to your account and are never shown to anyone else.
  • The ideas board is public to other users. What you post there, and the dog photo shown with it, can be seen by them.
  • Our diagnostics and crash reports contain no audio.
  • You sign in with Apple. We don't run ads, sell your data, or share it with research partners.
  • You can delete your data, or your account, in the app.
  • Pawty is for adults, 18 and over.

1. Who we are

Pawty is made by Weave Studio, Inc., a Delaware corporation, 1765 22nd Avenue South, W716, Seattle, WA 98144, United States. In this policy, "we" means Weave Studio, Inc. Contact: hello@getpawty.com.

2. What Pawty collects

WhatDetailsWhere it goes
AccountYour Apple sign-in. We receive a stable account ID from Apple, and your name and email only if you choose to share them (Apple may give us a private relay address instead). We also keep a token from Apple, encrypted and readable only by our server, so that when you delete your account we can tell Apple to end the link between Pawty and your Apple ID.Our account service (Supabase); the token is used with Apple
Your dogName, breed, age and (if you choose) boy or girl that you type in, the name and phone number of your vet's clinic if you add them, and your dog's photo. The photo is also your dog's card (#001) in your Pawdex.Name, breed, age, boy or girl, vet clinic name and phone: synced to your account. The photo syncs with your Pawdex (private storage).
Dog soundsShort audio clips (around 10 to 60 KB each) of sounds the app thinks are your dog, with when they happened, how long, how loud, the type of sound, the detector's scores and labels, and whether talking overlapped. For a clip that overlapped talking, we also keep a record of how the voice was removed (scores, not audio). We also compute a numerical "fingerprint" of each clip to group similar sounds.Synced to your account. Clips are in private storage. Fingerprints, word grouping and voice removal run on our server (Modal).
PawdexPhotos you take of animals you meet (and the cut-out sticker made from each), the animal's name and the person's name you type, the breed or kind, traits and rarity the app works out, and the neighbourhood and city names and date of each meeting. We turn your approximate location into those coarse names on your phone and save only the names, never your coordinates. A protected species is saved without a place. People: the camera refuses a photo with a person in it, and people in the background are blurred on your phone before the picture is stored or uploaded. A check runs again on the exact picture before any upload. Like all detectors, these can miss a person, so we say "as well as we can". Animal sounds you keep: if you hold the sound button to keep an animal's sound on its card, the clip is checked on your phone and not kept if it hears people talking. Kept sounds sync to private storage on our server. If the card is shared, its sound is public to anyone with the link. Removing the sound or deleting the card removes the server copies. There is no server-side voice re-check.Synced to your account. Photos, stickers and kept sounds are in private storage (Supabase). If shared, the cut-out sticker and kept sound also have public copies. With your permission, a small copy of the photo (at most 768 pixels on its longest side) and the coarse neighbourhood and city are sent to our server and to Anthropic to name the animal. Never exact location.
Matching the same animalTo suggest "You found Pip!" or "Is this Pip?", a numerical look-alike code (an embedding) is made from the photo on our server, and a similar code of the cut-out sticker is made on your phone and sent with it. A code is kept with a card you add to your Pawdex, and is not a picture. It is used only to suggest the same kind of animal in the same neighbourhood, one lookup per photo and at most three neighbourhoods a day. A protected species is never matched or shared. If you name an animal or add one to your Pawdex, it becomes a shared card: other people can hold it in their own Pawdex. They see only the animal's name, its sticker, scientific name, the name of the pet of the person who named it, and how many people found it. They never see where or when you met it, who you are, or your photos. Your own pet can be found this way too. Your answers to "Is this…?" are kept to avoid asking again and to check that matches are right.Synced to your account and our database (Supabase). Codes are made by our server jobs (Modal). Not shown to other people.
Abuse limitsTo stop the free AI allowance and neighbourhood lookups being reset or used to search for where an animal lives, we keep two one-way codes made from your Apple ID. They cannot be turned back into your Apple ID. (a) Neighbourhood lookups: how many different neighbourhoods were looked up, kept 72 hours. (b) Free AI allowance: how much free AI you used, kept up to 365 days after you delete your account, so deleting your account and signing in again does not reset the free allowance. They hold no name, email, place or content. They are not deleted with your account. Our database (Supabase)
Pawty card linksWhen you show or share a Pawty card, a link is made. Anyone with the link can see the animal's sticker and card details (name, breed or kind, scientific name, number, rarity, colour, and, when present, the dates and neighbourhood labels from that card's own sightings). A protected species has no place label. The link never shows coordinates, a map, other holders' sightings, your name or account, the person's name you added, or the original photo. If you kept a sound for the card, anyone with its link can play it. Tap "Stop sharing" on the card to remove the link, its sticker and its public sound copy. Deleting the card or your account removes the public sound too.Public link on our website (Vercel); sticker and sound copies in public storage (Supabase)
TricksVideos of up to 15 seconds of your dog doing a trick, with a picture from the video and the trick's name. Sound is off by default: the audio track is removed before the video is saved, unless you switch on "Keep sound" for that video. A video you keep with sound may include voices.Synced to your account, in private storage (Supabase)
Words, tags and notesThe words we group sounds into, what you tag (for example "doorbell"), and notes you write (up to 500 characters each).Synced to your account
Listening sessionsWhen a session started and ended, how many sounds were kept, how many talking moments were dropped (a count only), the device type (iPhone) and app version.Synced to your account
Vet papersPhotos or PDFs of invoices, vaccine cards, medicine labels and lab results you add, the items read from them, and what you confirm into your dog's record.Private storage and database (Supabase). With your permission, the paper is sent to Anthropic to be read. Reminders you set are scheduled on your phone.
Health records and remindersWhat you confirm from a vet paper, or type in yourself: vaccines, medicines, visits, weight, labs, procedures and allergies, with their dates and, if the paper prints them, the clinic or vet name, the dose and the cost. If a paper prints a repeat interval, the words you confirmed from it (up to 200 characters). Your reminder choices (on or off, and how many days ahead) and a log of when you tapped Done or Remind me later. A boarding date you pick, used only to check your papers on your phone.Synced to your account (Supabase), except the boarding date, which stays on your phone. Reminders are scheduled on your phone and show your pet's name and the item. They are never sent from our servers. Add to Calendar makes a calendar file on your phone that you hand to the Calendar app.
Lost kitFor the lost-pet poster: the microchip number, the chip registry's name and phone, a short description (up to 500 characters) and your own phone number. The microchip number is never put on the poster. Kept on your phone only: the area and time you last saw your pet, any extra body and markings photos you pick, and whether you turned on the yearly chip check.Chip number, registry, description and your phone number: synced to your account (Supabase). The rest stays on your phone. Links to a chip lookup, Petco Love Lost, Petfinder or Nextdoor just open in your browser: Pawty sends them nothing.
Sitter noteFree text you write for a sitter, each part up to 1,000 characters: meals, walks, house notes, a backup contact (name and number), your vet and an emergency vet, an authorization line and a spending limit. Please don't put door codes or passwords in it, and only add a backup contact who is OK with it.Synced to your account (Supabase).
Care pages you shareThe vaccine record, health summary and sitter note PDFs, and the lost poster (an image or a PDF). Pawty builds them on your phone from the information above. A PDF has your pet's details, your vet if you added one, and the records. Your phone number and your pet's microchip number are in it only if you switch them on, and both start off each time you open a page. You can attach a cropped photo of a vet paper; it is cropped on your phone. The poster has your pet's photo, breed, age, description, the last-seen area and time, and your phone number. The app cuts street addresses out of the poster text as well as it can.On your phone, then wherever you send it with the iPhone share sheet or AirPrint. Not sent to us. There is no link and no QR code, so only the people you send it to can see it, and we can't take it back once sent. Pawty deletes its temporary copies from your phone after you share or print.
Ideas boardIf you post an idea or add your paw to one: the text (up to 140 characters), a snapshot of your dog's photo and name shown as your dog's name, your paws, and any report or block you make. Other users can see an approved idea, its poster's dog photo and name, and the paw count. Our database (Supabase), visible to other signed-in users once approved. The text and photo are checked by an AI service (Anthropic) and by us before an idea goes up.
Diagnostics and crash reportsSmall events about how the app is doing and which parts of it get used: app starts, which screens you open, onboarding steps (including the ones before you sign in, held on the phone and sent only after you sign in), listening start and stop, tags saved, Pawdex catches and breed lookups, notification permission and taps, upload problems, sign-in problems, engine health (such as an interruption), and error and crash reports. Each event carries the app version and build, the iPhone model and iOS version, and a random install number made by the app (not your Apple advertising ID or any device ID); it is removed when you delete the app. Our servers add events about the work they do for you (a word being born, a vet paper being read, a breed lookup, a voice clean-up finishing or failing). No audio, no transcripts, and the app strips names, notes, file paths and similar before sending. Only sent while you're signed in. Deleting your account deletes these events; we keep only a daily count of how many accounts were deleted, with no way to tell whose. Our database (Supabase); error and crash reports also to Sentry
Pawla chatsWhat you ask Pawla, her answers, the saved items she points to, actions you confirm or cancel, and any thumbs up, thumbs down or report on an answer. Our database (Supabase), kept for 90 days after the chat was last used, then deleted. Clear chat in Pawla deletes it sooner. With your OK, each question is sent to Anthropic together with your dog's details that it needs (such as name, breed, age, saved records and word summaries).
FeedbackWhat you type in Something off? or Listening stopped?, an optional screenshot you pick, and the last 200 diagnostic events (event type and timing only). Our database (Supabase)
Android waitlistIf you leave your email on a Pawty card page to hear when Pawty comes to Android: that email, the card link you were on, and whether you were on Android or a computer. No account is made and we store no IP address. We use it once, to tell you Android is ready. To be removed, email us at the address on the support page. Our database (Supabase)
Your choicesRecords of what you agreed to, such as whether an AI service may read your photos, and which wording you saw.Your account (Supabase) and your phone

Pawty asks for microphone access to listen while a session is running. In Pawdex it also uses the microphone while you hold the sound button on a card. It asks for camera or photo access only when you add a photo or video of your dog, a vet paper, or an animal you meet. It asks for your approximate location only to name the neighbourhood and city on a Pawty card: those names are saved and synced to your account, but your coordinates are never stored or sent to us. The phone uses Apple's location services to turn a location into names. To draw your personal Pawdex map, it asks Apple's geocoder for public centres of those saved neighbourhood and city names. The centres stay cached on your phone and are cleared when you switch or delete your account. The map does not show where you stood or anyone else's album or sightings. Pawty asks to send notifications for the record reminders you set, the yearly chip check if you turn it on, and when your dog has a new word. You can turn each of these off in iPhone Settings.

3. People talking

Pawty is built to hear your dog, not people, but a home has people in it. Here is exactly what happens:

Please let the people you live with, and guests, know Pawty may be listening, and don't run it where people expect privacy. See the Terms of use.

4. How we use your data

We don't show ads, we don't sell your data, and we don't use advertising SDKs. We don't track you across other companies' apps or websites, so Pawty doesn't respond differently to Do Not Track signals. The app doesn't try to work out anything about people.

Research sharing is off. There is a switch in the app ("Help dog science") that is off unless you turn it on. Nothing is shared with research partners today. If that changes, we'll name the partners in the app first, and share only under a data agreement and only for people who switched it on.

5. Who else handles your data

These companies process data for us to run Pawty. They aren't allowed to use it for their own purposes beyond providing the service, as set out in their terms with us.

CompanyWhat they doWhat they handle

9. Your choices and rights

10. Security

Data is encrypted in transit. Files are in private storage, and database rules let each account see only its own data (apart from ideas board posts, public card links, and the small set of shared-card details described above, which are meant to be seen). Diagnostics and feedback can be written by your account but not read back by it, and only we can read them. No system is perfectly secure, so we can't promise it will never be breached.

11. Age

Pawty is for people 18 and over. It isn't for children, and we don't knowingly collect data from anyone under 18. If you think a child has an account, email us and we'll delete it.

12. Changes

If we change this policy in a way that matters, we'll tell you in the app or by email before it takes effect. The date at the top shows the latest version.
